Shiraz, the city of culture and art, is one of the most important pieces of Iran's historical and architectural puzzle. Its historic quarters — including Zandieh architecture — have long been shaped by events and happenings in the urban environment.
In recent years large commercial centres have been built in these signature parts of the city without awareness of that heritage. This project examines the events and potentials of Shiraz and designs an event-oriented market: a multi-purpose space for artistic events and social and cultural interaction, inspired by Iranian gardening (Chahar Bagh), the elements of the Vakil Bazaar, and the pavilions and ornaments of the Zandieh, Qajar and Pahlavi periods.
